Delicious and High in Protein!

These ribs are made from seitan. If you don’t know what seitan is, then you should! Seitan, or vital wheat gluten, is made from gluten which is the main protein in wheat. This is a plant-based alternative that has a very distinct “meaty” texture. This wheat gluten provides a hefty amount of protein and minerals, yet still being low in carbs and fat.

How to Make Vegan BBQ Ribs

Making these vegan barbecue ribs couldn’t be easier! This recipe is broken down into two very simple parts. You simply need to make the dough and the cook it! Its as easy as that. Here a bit more detail on exactly how to make these meatless ribs recipe.

First things first, preheat your oven to 375 F. While the oven is preheating, gather all the ingredients needed for this recipe. You can just mix all the dry ingredients in one mixing bowl and all the wet ingredients in a separate mixing bowl.

Next, simply mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients. Mix this mixture until a dough forms, then knead it a bit with your hands until the dough comes together (shouldn’t take long, about 1 to 2 minutes). If the dough seems a bit wet, then add a tsp of vital wheat gluten to it to get a drier dough.

Mixing the meatless rib dough. This dough is made from vital wheat gluten and spices.

Now you want to shape the dough into rectangular pieces, or what ever shape you want your ribs to be! Then you simply bake them in the oven until they are cooked though. This should take about 30 minutes or so.

Once they come out of the oven, its time to give them a rub! You can use your favorite BBQ spice or check out some of my BBQ spice recipes. I put a few down in the links below!

Tricks and Tips for the Best Meatless Ribs

Don’t overwork the dough

Seitan can get tough really quickly. Don’t knead your meatless ribs dough too much. You want to work the dough for a minute or two, just until its combined.

Get Your Grill Really Hot!

You are just getting some nice grill marks and smoke flavor from the grill. The ribs are already cooked before you throw them on. Make sure your grill is super-hot, so they don’t need to be on there as long!

Brush on The Sauce

Delicious glazed Vegan BBQ Ribs

While your ribs are grilling, don’t be stingy with the BBQ sauce! This is the best time to apply the sauce because it cooks into your meatless ribs, and it also gets a nice, caramelized flavor from the grates!

Make a Double Batch!

These ribs are going to be a hit! Make sure you have plenty of extra because people are going to eat them up!
